Here one thing has to be pointed out that it was a time when the shooting was mostly done in 'indoors' or 'studios'.but the current scenario is totally different. the increasing costs of the indoor shoots, the continuous bookings of studios for years for television works r giving rise to increasing costs. Thus, the director of locations & his team has developed a strategic importance in film making. Finding gud outdoor locations is a new business aspect. In maharashtra, shootings near panchgani, mahabaleshwar, pune, aurangabad, satara, kolhapur, lonawala, panvel, etc. has already begun. Nashik is also added in the list for outdoor locations in last few years.
Nashik has got all the potentials to be new media hub. The pioneer of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke belonged to Nashik. His memories are retained by the Mah.Gov. by developing a memorial near the 'Pandav Caves' which is very beautiful location. With that mountains, Ghats ,waterfalls, rivers, dams, gardens, wide roads, etc. are abundant in the city & suburbs. Grapes & wineyards with developed wineries are found only in Nashik in India. [You can refer the photos adjoined above]. Variety of temples, historical places is the speciality of Nashik. Transportation facilities like roadways, railway, airways, etc is also available from Mumbai. It's approximately 4 hrs. from Mumbai. Finally concluding somone could also think on the lines to develope a studio near Igatpuri on Mumbai-Nashik highway or Trimbakeshwar .
Film makers require wide well constructed highways, rural roads, various types of farms and horticultural lands, historical , mythical, pilgrim monuments, bunglows, skyscrapers, apartsments, toers, malls, commercial centres and above all farm houses; Also public gardens, airports, railway stations, bus stations , etc. infrastructural constructions are must for a film . Natural and wildlife habitat are pie on the cake for a film shoot. Astonishing waterfalls, rivers, dams, wildlife sancturies , hills, mountains, adventure camp points, etc. invite the film makers for shooting of songs and fight scenes . The variation in the culture and the living human habitats from highly educated , liberal society till the nomadic and jungle tribes who cling to their cultures and reflect it through their dressings, food, music , dance, art and craft is an special advantage to get everything available in a single place.
I think, only Nashik , is the nearest location from Mumbai which has all these varieties in the city and around it within a periphery of 50-70 kms. Believe it or not many filmmakers, directors, producers in bollywood and Marathi film industry were influenced by Nashik since 70s & 80s that films were shot here in regular intervals. Inspite of the fact like Mumbai, Pune & Kolhapur always had an upperhand in getting films shot there but still Nashik with it's natural beauty and developement with all variations attracted filmmakers like Manojkumar [ Shirdi Ke Saibaba ] , Ravindra Peepat [Waaris], Gulzaarsaheb [ Angoor ] , Rajkumar Hirani [ PK ] , Tigmanshu Dhulia [ Bullet Raja ] , Rajkumar Santoshi [Khakee] , Abhishek Chaubey [ Dedh Ishquiya ] etc. Already Ashutosh Gowarikar & Rahul Rawail are the big names of Bollywood have shot their movies in Nashik. Now Prakash Jha and Gajendra Ahire have planned to explore Nashik in their upcoming movies. Marathi movies like Partu, Jarab, Vanshvel, Ghulaam Begam Badshah , Reti , etc. were few of them shot here.
